Would you consider it very likely that the largest potato farmer in the southern hemisphere could produce one of the three best wines in Australia within five years by hiring a previously unknown winemaker just because he is friends with him?
But that's exactly what happened. In 1999, Frank Mitolo had had enough of potatoes, sold part of his empire, invested the proceeds in vineyards in McLaren Vale and gave his friend Ben Glaetzer, who five years later became Australia's Young Winemaker of the Year, the chance to show what he could do.

The first vintages already received very high ratings - especially the G.A.M. Shiraz. It has everything you could wish for in a top wine. It is impressively opulent, truly profound, wonderfully balanced, invitingly soft, incredibly spicy and incredibly fruity! The nose is full of dark, ripe fruit, aniseed, nutmeg and freshly ground pepper. The palate reveals blueberries, blackberries and liquorice. You can drink this wine with pleasure today or keep it for up to ten years.
