Applewood Unico Cello Limoncello Liqueur 20 % vol.
This Limoncello (not Lemoncello) is very precise. It is made from a closely guarded recipe - two different lemon varieties from South Australia's oldest citrus orchard in Lennane Orchards, Montacute Valley, Adelaide Hills. It is believed that this citrus orchard was established 150 years ago.
Why is this limoncello so important? The lemons are what you might call 'ugly'. Yes, they are different sizes and look kind of weird.
Unfortunately, this meant that the supermarkets didn't want to buy them.
After years of trying to sell these ugly little lemons, the growers wanted to remove the 150-year-old trees.
To preserve this historic orchard, Applewood Distillery put their hand up and promised to buy the entire crop to make this delicious limoncello.
It's a labour of love. Literally! The Applewood Distillery spends 12 hours peeling the orchard's lemons by hand to make this delicious drop.
They even have a family ritual where they take turns peeling a few buckets a day, everyone pitches in!
We think all lemons are beautiful and hope you do too.
Serve in a wine glass with plenty of ice, top up with soda and garnish with a mint leaf, saluti!
